Hey there,
Thanks for taking a look at my blog. I bet you when you found this page and read the headline you would have said NO WAY!![Elaine(3)[1] Elaine31 213x300 My story](http://www.cardiohaters.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Elaine31-213x300.jpg)
There are other people like me who hate cardio!
And then you may have said. GET OUT! (if you love Seinfeld, you will know what I’m talking about) I THOUGHT I had to do my running program no matter what! Now I don’t?
How can this be you may ask?
See I also thought in order to achieve my fat loss goals I had to kill my back, pound my joints on the pavement, and complete mind-numbing cardio to achieve the body I have always wanted.
Until I discovered this one little trick, here is a quick story on how I did it…

I love my sport
Because I was a ‘gym junkie’ and I played a sport I thought/had to do three things.
1.) I HAD to do cardio because my sport consisted of running, so that was just a no brainer I couldn’t argue with that.
2.) I THOUGHT I had to do cardio to keep my legs strong, my metabolism high, and my body fat levels down.
3.) I BELIEVED that running was just a fact of life and it had to be done no matter what I wanted to achieve.
So here I was doing cardio 3+ times a week on a treadmill and on the pavement running my body into the ground because I thought cardio was the be all and end all, and I needed to accept it no matter how much I despised it and no matter how much it was taxing my body.
The worst thing was that I was in this massive dreaded plateau where I wasn’t getting any results and the only answer I had was to do more of my ‘dull’ running program.
It was weird… I loved working out but cardio was actually starting to put me off a healthy lifestyle in every aspect.
My mentality was starting to turn really negative and I just thought what’s the point?
Every second day I was dreading waking up in the morning because it was my ‘running program day’ or should I say ‘back hurting, joint aching, boring day!’
My energy levels were low for the entire day and I was just in fear watching the clock getting closer and closer to my scheduled gym time.
But I knew I had to do it because if I didn’t my body would look like crap.
I hated feeling embarrassed in front of people whenever I required to show some skin… Like at the beach.
But then one unfortunate and two fortunate things happened to me which made me come across this technique I used to burn more calories, increase my metabolism and burn belly fat without running.
That unfortunate thing was that I dislocated my knee playing sport (Yer I no OUCH!)

Check out the knee brace
One fortunate thing was that I obviously couldn’t run for a while. WOOOOOO!
The second fortunate thing was because I was lying around in bed and had a lot of spare time I decided to hit the books pretty hard to find a way that I could still maintain/increase my fitness and stay as lean as possible without putting any stress on my knee.
After hours of studying I came across something very interesting.
I read that if I strategically ‘tweaked’ my current weight training workouts I could STILL get cardio benefits and keep my body as lean as possible.
But because I was still in the mentality that if I didn’t run I would lose all my fitness and get fat. I THOUGHT ‘bull sh*t… when you train with weights you only build muscle, you can’t get any cardio benefits from lifting iron’.
But then I found it in another book and another and another. Till finally it sank in that I better give it a try.
Now my doc said I wasn’t ready to run yet so I couldn’t sneak in my unexciting running program anyway’s.
The only option I had was to train with weights (which I didn’t mind)
So I played around with a few things in my program.
I kept checking in the mirror every day to see if some fat was starting to build up due to all the cardio that I WASNT doing. Because I was very sceptical I would look every where all over my body to find some ‘new fat’.
But nothin, I found no extra plump.
I was totally surprised. By this time I was allowed to start running but because I was amazed with the results so far and I didn’t really want to get back into my boring cardio schedule anyways, I stuck with the plan just to see where it got me.
And then all of the sudden, my body started to actually change. My body fat was DECREASING, my muscles looked LEANER and my figure looked BETTER then when I was jogging around the block.
Then it sunk in. The reality was…
I did not have to do any more cardio period!
People started coming up to me and complimenting me asking me what I was doing because my body was looking great and i was walking around pain free, yet they never saw me on a treadmill or out on the block running the streets.
I told them about how I was getting cardio benefits from ‘modifying’ my weight training program.
Some looked at me weird, many told me I was an idiot and a few were willing to listen to what I had to say.
And the people that WERE willing to listen (just like you!) were the ones that I poured my heart out to with free information because they were open minded with trying something a little different. And I value people that are willing to get out of their comfort zone because in reality that’s how we get the body of our dreams. By getting out of our comfort zone!
So guess what?
I’m also gonna give you a lot of my secrets away for free.
Why? Simple…
One is because I believe in karma.
I know that if I do something for you, you are going to want to do something for me.
The one thing I appreciate the most is receiving a comment at the end of a post from you. To me thats a thank you! As a result from reading your comment it makes me feel great because I believe that I have helped you get a little closer to the figure you have always wanted.
And two…

Hey Grant,
Inspiring stuff. Thanks for the background. It’s great to know how you got where you are today.
Whilst I do believe that hard work is essential to get anywhere, like you, I don’t enjoy cardio. I’ve spent heaps of cash on trying to get my ass around the park or onto the treadmill—fancy running shoes, Nike+, more fancy shoes, Timex Ironman training watch plus more. Obviously, none of that shit works if I’m in the pub when I should be in the gym.
I’ve decided that I’m not looking for a way out—I’m looking for inspiration and change. Your website is part of that.
Thank you,
Charlie K
Charlie thanks so much bro, I’d be glad to help in anyway.
Thanks again
Grant
Hey Grant,
You may not remember me but I went through Mazenod with you and graduated in ’07 before joining the army. My first year in the army went well… I built up to running 10 km in 40 min and I dropped to 80 kg. Not only could I run far and fast, I was stronger than ever and felt invincible.
In January 09 I ruptured a ligament in my right ankle. When I had almost recovered I dislocated my right knee cap, then ruptured the same ligament in my left ankle. Finally in Feb of this year (2010) I dislocated my left knee cap. So I’ve had 2 years of little cardio I’m sitting at 112 kg looking like shit and feeling like a fat slob. I am due for surgery in 2 weeks to have ligament reconstruction on my left knee then 8 weeks later on my right knee.
So I’m very interested in what you’ve got to say about weight training and cardio without running. I’m even more interested because I know who you are and trust that you aren’t spinning some sort of bullshit…
I’m down for about 2 months over christmas (I am posted to Canberra) and would be keen to organise a couple of private training sessions. What do you charge? and can you accommodate my injury recovery?
Hope all is going well for you post school.
Cheers mate,
Shane
Shane course I remember you, that sucks man! injuries are a pain in the ass.
Stay tuned to the blog and hopefully I can hit some nails on the head for you.
I’ll have a link up on this blog soon that will go directly to my training facility.
All the best,
Grant
