New Rules For Goal Setting
I thought this would be a great article to start off the new year considering new goals and new year resolutions start to get thrown around.
How you look at goal setting is up to you. I used to think of it as some corny shit that only goody goody toe shoes did. But until you actually achieve a pretty massive goal that you thought was unreachable you start to believe in it.
For me that turning point was last year when I moved into my new training facility. Didn’t think it would have ever happened or I would have the balls to do it. But I did.
The feeling from reaching a big badass goal is indescribable and if you have done the same, you know what I’m talking about.
Anyways I have now changed the way I set goals and achieve them, and I’m going to show you how this applies to your fitness and fat loss goals.
Hey what’s up cardio hater I hope you are killing it and enjoying life right now.
Today I wanted to take some time and keep you up to date with what’s happening in my life.
There will still be a couple fat loss tips here and there (including my current training and diet program). But more of the post will be dedicated to what’s happening right in regards to my next step in my life.
As you may or may not know, I planned this year to big the biggest year for setting myself up for the rest of my life. It’s a pretty big call I know, but you got to do it sometime if you want to succeed.
As soon as I become a certified trainer I always dreamed of having my own place. A place that would become my second home and be a huge part of my life.
Not only that, I also wanted to help as many people as I could. But not just locally, I wanted to do it globally.
So in order to conquer those 2 dream goals I had to take massive action.
I set myself 2 huge goals at the start of this year that I believed were achievable but would really take me out of my comfort zone.
Those 2 goals were…

Hey what’s up? hope you are doin’ awesome!
I’ve been pretty flat out at the moment with some projects that are really going to turn the fitness industry on its head. I mean REALLY throw some spanners into the works, I’m so pumped and excited I’m actually losing sleep over it, I can’t wait to reveal to you what it is… BUT – i’ll get to that a little bit later on in a future blog post, I need to keep the lid on if for a few more weeks. Sorry for the big drum roll
Anyways, I got a question the other day from a reader asking… “Hey Grant, thanks for all the posts you put up. I’m just wondering if you could quickly help me out. I don’t know what I have been doing wrong. I’m really trying to eat right and get to the gym. I’m also trying to not stay up as late and avoid alcohol and all that bad stuff. But I’m just not seeing any results. Any suggestions would be great! Samantha J”
Here’s my answer… (and it has nothing to do with diet or training. But it is something you’re over looking)
Ey there I know I haven’t posted much this week,
I have been flat out with the usual xmas hype plus putting together my personal training website and also doing a bit of a renovation for my gym (it’s going to be sweet).
Anyways a friend of mine posted this video up on his facebook page. I cannot take credit for finding it so thank you Macca.
I felt that I had to show you this, it is literally the most inspirational video I’ve ever seen. If you don’t like feeling emotions or getting a boost of motivation then don’t watch it.
P.S – Make sure you have the sound turned on…
This is a Mindset blog post by Grant Lofthouse Hey hope you are doin’ well, I got a really quick tip for you today for those special days were you wake up and just don’t feel like training at all. This happened to me this morning; I woke up and felt shit-house. I did my [...]
Hey there I hope you are doing great,
Today’s post is more about my life and some of the struggles I’ve been through but I promise you there will still be lessons in here to help you lose body fat without cardio and how to over come things when life doesn’t go the way it should.
(Please note that this is not a sob story, I’m not asking for sympathy. There are kids all over the world who have dealt with cancer, sickness and many other problems. This post is purely an insight into my life over the few years and the lessons I have learnt that I would like to share with you.)
Just under 2 weeks ago I went in for my 3rd knee operation, this operation was more of a clean up due to dislocating it in 2007 from playing football. So right now as I speak to you my knee is the size of a balloon.
I was the kind of kid who loved sports and always had a ball in my hand ever since I could well… walk. So to me sport was more important than anything – school, girls, and even sometimes family and friends.
Due to my love for sport I happened to pick up the art of AFL football pretty well. Anyways to cut a long story short I worked my absolute ass off to get into a representative football list in the TAC (remember that photo I showed you in the last post I did from training 2-3 hours a day, well that’s how badly I wanted to get into this team) – The TAC contains the best under 17 and 18 year old footballers in Victoria.
Anyways from pure hard work and determination I made the squad and played round one, and that was HUGE for me, I was one of about 4 sixteen year olds picked out of about 20 new kids to play round one. In fact it was pretty huge for the community. Teachers at school who I didn’t even know were coming up to me and wishing my well for my first game. I was even interviewed on a radio station about my story. I was literally living me dream!
What do you want more advice on? Training, Diet or Mindset?
The clear winner was Mindset.
So today I will answer your question and give you a little secret that I use to help me get out of bed on those cold early mornings or on those days when you particularly don’t want to train for whatever the reason may be.
I had one of those days yesterday where I honestly just did not want to train…
I scheduled my workout for 7.30am. As 7.30 was arising my mind started telling me things like…
- Its ok you don’t have to train, one missed session wont hurt.
- You can train later on today when you feel like it.
- You can train tomorrow instead.
The thing is that I knew if I missed one session it WOULD hurt. I knew that I couldn’t train later because I had clients, programs and blogging to do. And I knew I couldn’t use today’s program tomorrow because then it would screw up my entire weeks training schedule.
Yet I was leaning towards the side that was trying to justify why I shouldn’t train. My bed was just looking so much better right now compared to the sweaty kettlebells and chinup bar.
Then I remembered a technique that I read about which automatically installs the right mindset.
Its called the Propulsion System…
