This is a interview blog post

D: Hey its Darren here from www.p4manceelite.com and today we have a special guest, all the way from Australia. He is one badass trainer who owns a little gym, blogs, lives and breathes health and fitness and loves Seinfeld… Welcome Grant Lofthouse.

G: Hahaha thanks for the intro, and for being on this call.

D: No probs dude I’ve looking forward to it all week. Now Grant. why don’t you tell us a bit about yourself?

G: Ok well I’m a trainer based out of Australia and own a little gym in Melbourne. And I’m also the creator of CardioHaters.com which is the only site on the net that delivers alternative training methods for fitness enthusiasts who hate cardio.

Most of the stuff I write about is based on the things I have done in the trenches as well as on countless average joes at my private training facility.

D: Nice nice, now I noticed you mentioned in the trenches. So for those who don’t know, what do you mean by that?

G: Well look these days there is so much conflicting studies on why this and that is good and bad. Shit, even I sometimes don’t even know what to believe anymore.

So most of my blog posts are based upon what we do here in the gym with real people with jobs and a life. Don’t get me wrong… I stay up to date with the latest discoveries. But what I will actually do is try it on my clients and if it works I’ll stick with it, but if it doesn’t Ill can it.

D: Totally makes sense, do you think these days people get too involved with the science side on not so much getting out there and doing it.

Strong Is The New Sexy (Interview with Rachel Guy)

This is an interview post with Rachel Guy

Grant: Ok Rachel, why don’t you first tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi Grant! Born and raised in the UK, I moved to Sydney 6 years ago. I worked in the UK as a Physiotherapist before moving full time into Strength and Conditioning in Australia. I am a self-confessed gym-rat and professional nerd. ;)

I am based in Sydney as Head Strength Coach of Platinum Extreme Gym. We are a Mixed Martial Arts facility catering for the corporate market, in addition to being the home of a successful competing fight squad.

Despite working in an MMA club, I am also a girls girl who knows what women want and need from their training and overall lifestyle! Balance is crucial.

I love chocolate, red wine and cake as much as any girl…..lets talk training and food!

Grant: I’m strictly going to keep this post for females so, what are the biggest mistakes you see females making when it comes to training?

The Healthy Way vs. The Fitness Model Way (Interview)

Posted by on July 13, 2011 at 12:10 pm

This is a interview post with Dave Nelson

Dave NelsonSince you follow more of the “fitness model training style” how can you best explain the difference between the two? And also outline the positives and negatives of both sides of the training styles…

Yeah sure, well the main differences I see between people only worried about the “fitness model look” and those who are looking to improve overall health and well being starts with their nutrition.

The people I see chasing “the look” often have diets full of chemicals and preservatives for starters. When starting out I too, was guilty of downing lots of diet coke, caffeine filled fat burners and low carb products with heaps of hidden toxins in replacement of sugars and fats.

Often its only the calorie intake that is even looked at with no consideration of long term health or effects these chemicals may be having on your health.

Whereas the people who want to improve health and well being avoid additives, preservatives and are more often far more worried about getting their daily requirements of fruit and vegetables and therefore are fully nourished and healthier people. They try and eat as naturally as possible and therefore are a lot more resilient to lethargy, poor skin, illness etc.

The exercise programs between the two groups are quiet different, people chasing that “Hollywood look” often only train visual muscles such as chest, arms and abs. This creates a huge imbalance and can create a lot of pain and leads to injuries.

Whereas your clients for example Grant, are trained really well, concentrating on balancing muscle groups, flexibility, core and overall strength.

Interview with Jen Grasso

This is a interview blog post with Grant Lofthouse and Jen Grasso

Hey Grant here, welcome back to Cardio Haters.

I’ve managed to get a hold of… in my eyes… one of the most coolest chicks who should be a role model for any female who wants to change the way they look and feel. I have been following this lady for a while now and I can honestly say it’s a true privilege to introduce to you Jen Grasso.

So without further ado lets get on with the interview…

G: Ok Jen let’s start by telling everyone a little bit about yourself?

J: I’m a former HS and college athlete and graduate of William Paterson University. I majored in Exercise and Movement Science with a minor in health education. I spent the last 11 years in the teaching profession as a Health and Physical Educator and Coach. Currently, I am a Strength and Conditioning Specialist for Renegade Strength and Conditioning, LLC.

G: Currently what are your goals and how is your training based around them?

J: I love to help others get strong and I am currently helping others achieve all of their fitness goals. In the process, my current goal is to compete in my first fitness competition while crushing all of my current PR’s. I am focusing right now more on bringing up my lower body (especially my glutes) with heavy squats, deads, and assistance lifts.

G: What about diet?

J: I currently follow intermittent fasting and an all natural, organic, high protein, low carb diet. I don’t eat anything man made or that comes in a box or bag. Mainly, just fruits, vegetables, organic meat, eggs, and fish. On training days I eat more carbs and consume them all in the post workout period. I drink lots of water and a cup or two of green tea per day.

G: Let’s now talk about training and diet regarding females. What’s the biggest mistake you see females do when it comes to training?

My 5am Interview With Rob Cooper a.k.a. Former Fat Guy

Posted by on September 3, 2010 at 11:35 am

Ey hope you doing great, sorry I havn’t been posting much this week. The honest truth is this post took me about 3 days to write due to converting the video into text (doesn’t help when you are a slow writer as well).

Ok so right now I’m laying in bed on my laptop. Its 5am but I don’t feel tired because I am super excited to be talking to Rob Cooper in a few secs. His story that I am about to reveal to you is truely inspirational…

I receive the incoming call on Skype. It’s Rob and away we go…

Grant – Hello

Rob – Hey Grant how are you?

Grant – Rob I’m doing fine how are you?

Rob – Ah well I threw my back out the other day from doing deadlifts so I’m in bed right now but apart from that I’m good.

Grant – Sorry to hear about your back bro, make sure you stay on top of that. So can you tell me a bit about yourself?

Rob – Well usually I just tell everyone that I was a former fat guy; I once weighed 475 pounds … Now I don’t. I had always struggled with my weight, being on one weight loss program or another since being in grade 5. I reached 320 pounds in December of my graduating year of high school, and went on my first diet. I dropped 80 pounds by graduation time and kept it off for an entire year after graduation. When I began university I quickly regained the weight.

I left University in Dec of 1987 and become a cab driver and quickly set the land speed record for the quickest amount of weight gained in the shortest period of time and ballooned up to 475 by December of 1989.

(Rob at 475 pounds)

It was then that I had my “episode” after a night of driving taxi. My heart freaked out and I almost died. I did nothing about it, so two days later, it happened again, but this time 10x worse. My life flashed in front of my eyes and I saw my parents finding me dead, at 22 yrs old and weighing 475 pounds. I did not think my weight was problem funny enough. I immediately took a different approach to the “episode / heart attack” I decided I had to do something about my health.

Hey Grant here, I just wanted to give you a little insight into a Rowville Personal Training client of mine who is probably the most determined out of my entire Cardio Hater Army. Lyn came to me at over 102 kilos – she started off at training with me 2 times a week. I remember her saying [...]
