This is a Mindset blog post by Grant Lofthouse
I got a really quick mindset tip for you today for those special days were you wake up and just don’t feel like training at all.
This happened to me this morning; I woke up and felt shit-house. I did my usual routine such as toilet, got dressed and worked on a few things for this site.
I usually train around noon but because I was just having one of those days, when it hit 11.35 I knew the old excuses were going to pop into my head and start making me say stuff like…
- “You can train tomorrow when you feel better”
- “You have a lot of work to do today; you just don’t have the time”
- “Maybe you should wait a few more hours”
- “One missed session won’t hurt”
Have any of these thoughts come into your head before? They can be pretty convincing sometimes.
Ok so here’s what I did and how I turned from thinking about not even training to having one of the best training sessions this week…
I told myself – “just go and do some easier stuff like some curls, calf raises and neck.” This sounded fair enough and pretty convincing so I did.
45 minutes later I walked out of my gym completing trap bar deadlifts, floor press and chin ups.
How?
Because all I had to do was trick my mind into getting out of the house and into the gym, once I was in there I knew it would be too hard not to avoid a kickass training session when you have Slaughter House and Eminem blaring and being jacked up on some caffeine.
So there’s my little trick that I use. Ok so now it’s your turn…
In the comment section below, I want to hear some of your tricks that you use for those days were you just aren’t feeling motivated.
Looking forward to hearing some of your responses. I might use some of them myself.
